A set of twins was born in 1848 that did not live. All the children were born in Marion, Grant County, Indiana.

The family lived in Marion, Grant County, Indiana, before traveling to California in a wagon train in 1853. Mary died on the way west; baby John died three months later. John was a miner in California. After the Civil War, he moved to Ophir City, Utah. He was a probate court judge in Grant County, Indiana, in 1833.

George was an electrical engineer who was an expert on rates, services and capitalization of public utilities in New York. He was a musician who played viola in a string quartet. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for service as a flight commander in France in World War I. The family lived in Jackson Heights, Queensboro County, Long Island, New York. He was preparing to hike in the Ramapo Mountains when he died on a train. Emily was a teacher and a YMCA director. The family left from Marion, Grant County, Indiana, about 1915.

Mary left Indiana about 1912 and lived in North Carolina for a while. She was a nurse in France during World War I. She was interested in the new field of xray technology and was credited with significant innovations in the field. She worked for John Hopkins Hospital for 26 years. She never married and had no children.

John came with his parents to Indiana in 1845 from Ohio where he was born. He lived in District 52,
Huntington County; Tippecanoe Township, Tippecanoe County; and Kokomo, Howard County. John had distinguished service with the 86th Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War, serving from 14 August 1862 to 1 June 1865. Three years later, in 1868, he left Indiana for Lewis Township, Holt County, Missouri.

Mark came to Indiana before 1822, living in Wayne, Henry, and Grant counties, and emigrated in 1852 to the Little Baraboo Valley, Wisconsin, a Quaker settlement. He became one of the justices in the town of Woodland, Wisconsin, when it was formed in 1857. He was a Quaker preacher and sold land to the Baraboo Monthly Meeting for the Friendswood burial ground. The family moved on to Iowa in 1865. While he did not serve in the Civil War, two or three of his sons did.

Milo’s Flemming ancestors came to Indiana about 1840. His grandfather was in the 1840 census in Pleasant Township, Grant County, Indiana. Milo was last in Indiana in the 1900 census, living in Mill Township, Grant County, with his mother Ellen and stepfather, William R. Townsend and siblings.

By 1910, Milo was living in College Hill, Hamilton County, Ohio. When he registered for the WWI draft in 1917, he was a principal in a business college and living in Cincinnati, where he remained until sometime after 1920. A military school in South Union, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, was his place of employment in 1930.

Milo died at age 82 and is buried in the LaFayette Memorial Park in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He had owned and operated the Business Training School, located in the Fayette Title and Trust Building in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, for several years before his death.

Gordon France was the youngest of three sons born to Rev. Nathan Perry France and Carrie Catherine Arford of Grant Co., IN. He attended the University of Indianapolis and graduated magna cum laude in 1933. He served as class president and was active in the school’s tennis and baseball teams. In 2001, members of his baseball team were admitted to the University of Indianapolis Hall of Fame in recognition of their 13-0 season during Gordon’s senior year. He later served on the Board of Trustees for the University and became Trustee Emeritus. Hewas also involved in civic affairs for the community of Anderson, IN where he was active on the school board, the city council, the board of the YMCA, various non-profit community organizations, the Masons, Kiwanis, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was also active with the United Brethren/Methodist Church.

He spent most of his life in Indiana except for a brief period during World War II when he was living in Ohio and working towards the war effort. After the war, he returned to Indiana where he remained until his death in 2009.
