D. C. was the eighth child in his family and the second to emigrate to the West from Indiana. After graduating from Louisville Medical College, he opened a practice in 1902 in Malad City, Idaho. In 1920, he moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where he practiced for many years. He served three terms in the Idaho State Legislature and was president of the Idaho Medical Society.

Dr. Ray was proud to be an old-fashioned country doctor. In the severe Idaho winters, he had to reach his patients by bob-sled. He delivered many babies in country homes and performed emergency operations on the kitchen tables. Three of the children followed their father into the health care field: Jesse and George were physicians, and Robert was a pharmacist.

Saphronia (Carpenter) Allison was Mary Delanzo Carpenter’s sister.

Thomas Murphy served in Company G, 145th Indiana Regiment, during the Civil War. He and his second wife Mary Delanzo (Carpenter) Murphy emigrated from Jennings County, Indiana, to Grant Township, Riley County, Kansas, in 1865. Mary and Saphronia were sisters. Thomas Jefferson Murphy claimed 21 children.

Joseph lived in two Indiana counties, Carroll and Parke. He emigrated from Indiana in 1833 to Michigan, and moved by 1840 to the area that became Kendall County, Illinois, in 1841.

Joseph was a cooper while living at Oswego Township, Kendall County, Illinois. After her husband’s death, Azzuba returned to Indiana, where she is found in Parke County in the 1870 and 1880 censuses along with some of their children.

After the death of his brother-in-law, John B. Yount, at Pekin, Big Canon, El Dorado County, California, Calvin Rutter Clarke ran the trading post for his sister, Levenia Clarke Yount. He freighted the goods from Sacramento.

In 1873, Calvin Clarke opened the first hydraulic mine in the state of Tolimia, Columbia, South America for an English company. He was one of the locators of the Idaho Mine, but he sold his interest in that mine and went into the grocery business in Grass Valley.

Calvin Clarke was sheriff of Nevada County for two terms and assessor for one term. Later he was postmaster in Nevada City. He was buried in City Cemetery, Sacramento, California.
