John moved to Indiana as a young man, in the late 1820’s,with his parents, from Randolph County, NC. They first settled in Hendricks Co., IN and by 1835, his father had a land grant in Hamilton Co., IN, where they moved.

After John married and had children, he moved his family to Crawford Co., KS. During the 1870’s, John’s brother, Edward D. Rushton, followed John by moving his family there. John was a farmer.

David was the son of Wilson Vaughn and Nancy Bowlen. He married Amanda Sullivan who was the daughter of William Sullivan and Nancy Anna Rogers. He came to Indiana about 1849 with his mother, three brothers, and a sister. They initially settled in Brown Co., Indiana where David and his wife, Amanda, met and were married. Before moving to Lawrence County, they settled in Jackson County. David worked as a carpenter, was a member of the local Methodist church, and served as a Justice of the Peace. His obituary and death notice appeared in a number of local papers including the Bloomington Telephone and the Bedford Daily Mail, both describing David and his family as pioneers of the county. He died at the age of 85.

Meredith moved to Lorain, Ohio, in 1919 with his family but returned to Indiana that same year. He lived in Fulton County and then Starke County until 1959 when he left for Arkansas.

He was a farmer and a carpenter, but worked as a Standard Oil gas salesman and delivery man in Indiana. He also worked in a wood product factory in Arkansas. He was unaware his uncle was raising him until he was told at age 21.

He served on the town council in Everton, Arkansas, and helped to get the town streets paved.

Allen Frederick and Helen Rita were married in St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, Indiana. He was an electrical engineer with General Electric in Philadelphia until 1981. He died at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey, and is buried in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, Burlington County, New Jersey.

Pat Clark enlisted in the American Expeditionary Forces in Detroit, Michigan in 1917. He was a tail gunner in the 147th and 139th Aero Squadrons in France. Returning home from the war, he enrolled at the University of Illinois, graduating in 1926 with a degree in Business and Railroad Management. He worked for General Motors Insurance Co. in several offices on the west coast. In 1948 he, his wife, and another couple purchased a hunting and fishing lodge in Boise National Forest, Valley County, Idaho.

Edwin was a carpenter and telephone electrician. He lived in Warren and Benton counties in Indiana for most of his life. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. in Oxford. The family was in Minnesota at the time of its 1857 territorial census. His body was returned to Oxford, Indiana, for burial.
