Ira was born in Ohio to Nathan Compton and Sarah Jane Hawkins. He was settled in Montgomery County, Indiana by the 1840s and married first, Martha Campbell, and then Judith Vaughn. Judith was the daughter of James Vaughn and Nancy Jones. Both Ira and Judith are buried at Bunker Hill Cemetery.

David was the son of Wilson Vaughn and Nancy Bowlen. He married Amanda Sullivan who was the daughter of William Sullivan and Nancy Anna Rogers. He came to Indiana about 1849 with his mother, three brothers, and a sister. They initially settled in Brown Co., Indiana where David and his wife, Amanda, met and were married. Before moving to Lawrence County, they settled in Jackson County. David worked as a carpenter, was a member of the local Methodist church, and served as a Justice of the Peace. His obituary and death notice appeared in a number of local papers including the Bloomington Telephone and the Bedford Daily Mail, both describing David and his family as pioneers of the county. He died at the age of 85.

Though he was born in Lawrence County, Lawrence spent most of his life in Monroe County, where he was employed in the limestone industry. An injury to his leg caused his retirement and, according to his obituary in the Bloomington Daily Telephone, brought complications leading to his death in 1938.
