Benjamin Stephenson of Washington County, Indiana has deposited in the General Land Office of the United States, a certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Jeffersonville whereby it appears that full payment has been made by the said Benjamin Stephenson according to the provisions of the act of Congress of the 24th April 1820, entitles “An act making further provision for the sale of the Public Lands,” for the West half of the North West quarter of Section Twenty in Township Two North of Range three East in the District of Lands subject to Sale at Jeffersonville Indiana containing Eighty Acres to the official plot . . .

Most were farmers, including Benjamin Stephenson who donated land to Mt. Tabor Christian Church.

It is said that Nelson Stephenson lived on the farm owned by Benjamin and Rebecca Stephenson. It is said this house burned in 1880.

All the children of Benjamin and Rebecca Stephenson, including parents Benjamin and Rebecca, are buried at Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

It was said in the year 2000 that half the congregation of Mt. Tabor Christian Church were related to Benjamin Stephenson.

Emma moved with her parents to Arkansas in 1935. The next few years found the family living in Arizona and then California before returning to Arkansas in 1939.

When her father left the family in Arkansas, she took her ill mother and younger brother and sister back to Indiana in 1940 to live with her aunt, Lucy Sudlow, in Starke County, Indiana. While there she met and married Meredith Lockridge. Together they raised her brother, Oliver, and sister, Roseltha.

Emma and her husband moved to Arkansas in 1959, living first in Newton County and then in Boone County, where they remained until their deaths.

She was a homemaker, church worker, and 4-H leader for 35 years.

George moved to Kansas before 1862 and enlisted in the Union Army, 11th Kansas Cavalry on 16 August 1862. His military records says he was of light complexion, had blue eyes, and dark hair. He was a farmer most of his life and served as a “herdsman” during much of his time in the Army.

Meredith moved to Lorain, Ohio, in 1919 with his family but returned to Indiana the same year. He lived in Fulton County and then Starke County until 1959 when he left for Arkansas.

He was a farmer and a carpenter, but worked as a Standard Oil gas salesman and delivery man in Indiana. He also worked in a wood product factory in Arkansas. He was unaware it was his uncle who was raising him until he was told at age 21.

He served on the town council in Everton, Arkansas and helped to get the town streets paved.

Clarence left from Fairmount, Grant County, Indiana, after his divorce in 1915 and moved to Michigan. He enlisted in the military in White Cloud, Michigan on 3 June 1918. He served overseas from 23 July 1918 until his death. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on 26 June 1921. In 1926, Lula married Walter Hillsamer in Grant County.

Cluna came to Indiana with her mother and siblings in 1900. In 1913, she and her family moved from Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Decatur Illinois. When she moved to Fort Wayne, she began dressmaking for private individuals in their homes. This opportunity developed her natural talent in design and fashion. Her expertise in the art of needlework was in many mediums, materials, and techniques. Cluna’s appreciation of home led her to design and supervise the construction of their two-story brick colonial home surrounded by three acres of landscape. The home was furnished with authentic Victorian antiques, which were upholstered in needlepoint that she had made and included many early American family heirlooms.

Edward worked for the Wabash Railroad in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Decatur, Illinois, working his way up from machinist to superintendent of the locomotive shops. He moved from Fort Wayne in 1913. Edward was interested in fishing, raising show rabbits, gardening (especially roses and dahlias), and maintaining mechanical equipment.
