David was in Union County, Indiana, by November 1828 and left in 1864 by wagon train for Mercer County, Illinois. His wife Jane moved to Mercer County, Illinois, after her first husband’s death and had left a married daughter there; she had brought her young sons from her second marriage back to Union County with her.

David was a strong Democrat, but also a peace Democrat, who thought the issues surrounding the Civil War could be solved by negotiation.

Jane, her husband Charles, and some of their children are buried in Llwellyn Cemetery near Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri. Although Jane’s tombstone reads Jane E. and she was known as Jane, the 1880 Missouri census lists her as Elizabeth J. Her letters home to her widowed mother’s Hendricks County, Indiana, residence, related many of the facts concerning Jane and her family. These letters are in the possession of the contributor.

Julius emigrated from Indiana to Arapahoe County, Colorado, about 1897 for Maria’s health. Maria possibly died of tuberculosis.

Julius was a photographer, farmer, salesman, and travel agent during his life. Before the enumeration of the 1900 census, Julius and his second wife Anna moved to Berrien County, Michigan, where they lived near to his twin brother Lineus.

Regarding Julius’ children, Earl and Ovid Ludlow remained in Colorado, where they operated a packing company and a ranch. Jessie Benton Ludlow married in Arapahoe County, Colorado, on 3 August 1899.
