Thomas and Catharine had no children. Her grandfather, Johann Rottinghous, came from Hanover,
Germany in 1848. He was naturalized in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana, in 1852. The family remained there but by the 1920 census, Catharine was living in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, and working as a registered nurse at the Veterans’ Hospital in Dayton. She met her husband there, as he was also working at the hospital.

Andrew bought land in 1838 in St. Mary’s Township, Adams County, Indiana. Sometime before the 1860 census they moved as they were in Pontiac Village, Livingston County, Illinois by then. After two of the daughters were married in Indiana, the whole family and sons-in-law moved on to Louisa County, Iowa, where Andrew remained.

He also worked as a stone mason and made the Land Run in the Oklahoma Territory. After the death of her husband, Rebecca Jane lived with her daughter S. Eulalie (Cooper) Eldred in Houston, Texas until her own death in 1924.

After losing everything in the flood of the Wabash and Ohio rivers that devastated the Wabash Valley, March 23-26, 1913, they moved back to Michigan where they remained.

Dan’s father, Lot Wright, who was born somewhere in Pennsylvania about 1811, moved to Hancock County, Indiana, around 1832. He left for “the West” when he was about 23 and eventually arrived in Utah where he met and married Emily. He was primarily employed as a blacksmith, but also did some farming. In his midfifties he apparently suffered a stroke and was partially paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.

Benjamin moved with his family in late 1856 or early 1857 to Iowa County, Iowa. Just after he turned 18, he enlisted in Company G, 8th Iowa Infantry Volunteers. His enlistment papers describe him as having hazel eyes, light hair, fair complexion, and standing five feet eight and a half inches tall. He was mustered out in Selma, Alabama, at the end of his enlistment on 24 January 1866. Benjamin returned to Iowa and lived there until his death.

Oscar’s father moved to Indiana from Pennsylvania around 1849 and was a farmer and a minister of the Memorial Church, which was just at the southwest edge of what is now Lake Santee. Oscar was the youngest of eleven children and a farmer his entire life, first in Indiana and then later in North Dakota.

Margaret left Indiana to teach in Nebraska. At age eighteen she left there to care for the children of her cousin and close friend, Sarah Elizabeth (Bergan) Whiteman, who had died in childbirth in Fountain, Elpaso County, Colorado. She married Sarah’s widower in Trinidad, Colorado, homesteaded at Ponil Creek in northern New Mexico, and lived in Ute Park, Roy, and Cimarron in New Mexico.

Margaret’s husband left home in Independence, Missouri, at age 13 to look for his father who had gone west to search for gold. Not finding him, he returned to Independence and at age 18, signed on as a freighter on the Santa Fe Trail. He later worked as a carpenter, was an accomplished fiddle player, worked as a lawman, and operated a toll road from Roy, New Mexico, to Burro Canyon
