They were in Benton County, Missouri, in 1842, where a son died and a daughter was born. They then took the Oregon Trail to Oregon, where Mr. Reeves, John, and Sarah lived until their deaths.

Welton immigrated to Indiana in 1820 from Virginia and lived in Terre Haute, Vigo County, and Cloverdale, Putnam County.

His brother was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1821. Their father was married twice; his first marriage ended with the death of his wife, but the second marriage ended in divorce.

Welton was a medical doctor.
