John lived in Antioch (now Andrews), Huntington County; Peru, Miami County; and Ft. Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, before emigrating about 1905/6. His family had lived in Blackford, Wabash, and Madison counties before buying land in Huntington County. He went to Wood County, Ohio, and ran a quarry above North Baltimore. He then went to Kentucky to work in the oil fields and later came back to Lucas County, Ohio. He had also worked on the Wabash Railroad.

George came to Clear Creek Township, Monroe County, Indiana, in 1840. After living in Rockport and Midway in Spencer County, Indiana, he emigrated to Pea Ridge, Arkansas, in 1878. Then in 1881 the family moved to Indian Territory which later became Oklahoma. He was a cooper (barrel-maker). He was in Company I, 18th Regiment, Indiana Infantry from August 1861 to August 1864, except for three months in the 49th Regiment in early 1864.

Joseph and Polly moved to Muscatine County, Iowa, in 1854, then on to Kossuth County, Iowa, in 1856. Joseph was the third white farmer to settle in what is now Sherman Township but was then Irvington Township. The first white birth in that township was their daughter Caroline. The second white death in the township was Polly.
