Ira was born in Ohio to Nathan Compton and Sarah Jane Hawkins. He was settled in Montgomery County, Indiana by the 1840s and married first, Martha Campbell, and then Judith Vaughn. Judith was the daughter of James Vaughn and Nancy Jones. Both Ira and Judith are buried at Bunker Hill Cemetery.

Earl Lee’s great-great grandfather settled in Vigo County, Indiana, in 1817. He came from North Carolina via Kentucky and Ohio. His name was James Lee and he is buried in Prairie Creek Cemetery in Vigo County. The DAR has place a marker on his grave for service in the Revolutionary War.

Robert Earl moved south to Alabama in 1904 as a young boy with his parents. They were looking for a milder climate and cheap land. They found both in Alabama! Earl was a farmer and a carpenter. He is buried in the Clear Springs Cemetery in Baldwin County, Alabama.

Jacob lived in Delaware, Grant, and Randolph counties while in Indiana. He was a farmer and served in the Civil War from Indiana, but moved to Colorado in 1878. He first settled in Park County, Colorado, and later moved to Meeker, Rio Blanco County, Colorado. Jacob died at the Old Soldier’s Home in Monte Visa, Rio Grande County, and is buried with his wife in Meeker, Rio Blanco, Colorado.

Warren Ferris Lee moved to St. Joseph County, Indiana, by 1840 and after 1840, to Fawn River, St. Joseph County, Michigan, where he purchased a small flour mill and distillery on Fawn River from a Mr. Freeman. In the 1845 census of St. Joseph County, Michigan, the Lees were living in Fawn River Township.

About 1848, Warren F. Lee served as town clerk of Fawn River Township. But by 1850 the Lee family had moved to LaGrange County, Indiana, where Warren was running an inn called the Lima House with the help of his son Charles. Then in 1858, Warren was back across the state line in Fawn River Township, serving as a delegate to the St. Joseph County, Michigan, Democratic County Convention.

John came from Jefferson County, Ohio, in 1850. He lived in Owen County, Monroe County, and Parke County, Indiana. He left in 1877 for Mitchelsville, Saline County, Illinois. John was in the Ohio Cavalry, Company G, 13th Regiment, in 1864–1865. He was in the 7th U.S. Cavalry at Indianapolis in 1870–71. He taught school while in Indiana and became a physician after moving to Illinois.
