In 1910, he was in Gibson County, Indiana. Efforts to locate him in the 1920 census were not successful. In 1930 he was living in Monroe County with his brother, Benjamin.

On June 30, 1904, in Gibson County, Walter married his second wife, Martha A. (Thorn) Cosby Loumiller.
