Robert moved to Bourbon County, Kentucky, in 1814, then to Fayette County, Kentucky, before coming to Clark County, Indiana, in 1821. He lived in Clark and Scott counties in Indiana before moving to Phillips County, Arkansas, in 1837. In 1842, he returned to Scott and Clark counties in Indiana, before going by covered wagon to Jasper County, Iowa, in 1854. He was a farmer, a Methodist, and a Republican.

It is unknown when Zebulon immigrated to Indiana; however he lived in Monroe County and, after his second marriage, in Orleans, Orange County, before emigrating in 1855 to Clark County, Iowa.

In 1819, Mary Ann immigrated to Indiana from Lincoln County, Kentucky. She lived in Monroe County, where she married the widower Zebulon Smith. They moved to Orange County near where her parents lived in Washington County before immigrating to Clark County, Iowa, around 1855.

John immigrated to Indiana in 1826 from Kentucky and resided in Brown and Johnson counties in Indiana. He left Indiana in 1846 for Putnam County, Missouri. John Sparks is said to have died along the Oregon Trail.
