It is unknown when Zebulon immigrated to Indiana; however he lived in Monroe County and, after his second marriage, in Orleans, Orange County, before emigrating in 1855 to Clark County, Iowa.

In 1819, Mary Ann immigrated to Indiana from Lincoln County, Kentucky. She lived in Monroe County, where she married the widower Zebulon Smith. They moved to Orange County near where her parents lived in Washington County before immigrating to Clark County, Iowa, around 1855.
