Hannah came to Switzerland County, Indiana, in February 1816. Her parents bought land north of Patriot in Switzerland County where they farmed and had a fruit orchard. Hannah taught school. The family left Switzerland County, Indiana for Perry County, Illinois, after 1850. Two of her sons died in the Civil War within a few months of each other, one at Vicksburg and one in Andersonville Prison. Hannah died soon thereafter.

Thomas came to Indiana before 1840. The Drake family left Greene County, Indiana, for the area of the Five Civilized Tribes, Choctaw area, Indian Territory, about 1870. On the trail westward to Texas, twin sons were born and died, as did their mother Sarah.

Thomas mined coal in the area and was active in union organizations, as was his son William Joe. The children born to Thomas and Rufina were registered on the Dawes Commission Rolls as Native Americans. Thomas is buried in what is now Pittsburgh County, Oklahoma.

John James was with the 81st Regiment of Indiana Volunteers from August 1862 until November 1862, when they had to leave him behind because he was too ill to continue. He was discharged for disability in March 1863. It is not known when he moved to Iowa, but he was there in 1898 when he applied for his pension. Rebecca received a pension after John’s death.
