Henry was born in rural Cory, Clay County Indiana to William Thomas Nees and Mary Thomas on Mar 18, 1910.  He was raised by his maternal grandparents Marion & Lydia (Hardin) Thomas from the time he was 2 years old due to his mother’s 2nd marriage.  He has 1 half brother and 3 half sisters on his mother’s side and 1 half sister on his father’s side.  He went to school in the Old Jeffers School house in rural Cory Clay County, Indiana from 1st grade to 8th grade.  While living with his grandparents he farmed.  He worked on the railroad for a while.  He was a coal miner with Peabody Coal Company after married where he worked until he retired.  He and his wife Carolyn owned and operated Ike’s grocery and gas station in Saline City, Clay County Indiana for a short while in the early 70’s and they also owned Nees’ Greenhouse in Saline City, Clay County Indiana sometime during his life time.  He played drums in The Double Eagle Band which went to different nursing homes, and some other places like the Saline City Labor Day Picnic.  He could also play the violin.  He was an avid fisherman.  A man of many talents he worked as an electrician for the Saline City Labor Day Picnic Association of which he was a member for several years.  He could also do carpenter work, and work on mechanics some.  He became a born again christian in 1975.  Attended Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City for a while.

John moved to Floyd County, Indiana with his parents in 1815. He married Margaret Bright in Floyd County and their first child, Richard, was born in Terre Haute, Vigo County. By 1842, the family lived in Frederickbury, Washington County, where son William was born.

“Thomas Albert Morgan, born 25 Aug 1805 and John Morgan, born 26 Aug 1811 were brothers born in Wheeling, West Virginia and settled in Indiana in 1826 at Fredricksburg, Indiana.”

“John B. Morgan Sr. was born in Virginia, presumably in the Shenandoah Valley.  In 1815 his, parents moved to Floyd County Indiana, in 1815, where he was raised and educated.  He entered the saddle and harness trade with his brother Thomas in 1825 in Fredericksburg, Indiana. and the business proved profitable.  The 1850 census indicated that he had $2,000 to his name, which was quite a bit for that period.“

“John’s son Kimble and Volney were the first to settle in Daviess County, Indiana.”

“Richard George Morgan was born at Terri Haute, In 8 Feb 1836.  His parents moved to Fredricksburg , Posey County, in the Spring of 1841, opening an general store and harness shop in the old building recently torn down to give place to Julian’s new building.  At that time Washington Street was the State road.  A brick hotel that stood near the wall on that street, the brick building now occupied by Thomas Richards and a few cabins constituted the town.
Mr Morgans father (John) soon erected an old fashioned English inn, where H.L. Siegs residence now stands.  It was a very large building, containing more than twenty rooms, had great double porches and was built with a view to the convenience and comfort of the traveling public.  It was destroyed by fire about 1855.”

William remained in the Rosedale area of Parke County, Indiana, until late 1904, when he left for North Dakota to take up homestead near Ryder. He later worked for the McClure Coal Company at Minot and in 1911 went to Devils Lake to be employed at the Stevens Grain and Fuel Co.

A prominent member of the Masonic bodies, William served as Master Mason of West Lodge in Minot and later transferred to the Minnewaukan chapter in Devils Lake. He served as commander of the Cyrene Commandery of the Knights Templar during 1932 and 1933, was a member of Doric chapter, Royal Arch Masons, of the Scottish Rite bodies, and of Kent Temple Knights of the Mystic Shrine at Grand Forks. William was also a member of the Elks, serving as past noble grand of the I.O.O.F. lodge and an active member of the B.P.O.E. He held the first three stations of the Elks until moving to the west and figured prominently in the activities of that group. He was secretary of the Devils Lake Rotary club for several years.

At the time of his death he owned the Lake Fuel Company, which he had purchased from the Stevens Grain and Fuel Company several years before.
