Isaac was married previously on 20 July 1864 to Arnetta Talkington, who died 10 November 1866.

According to family tradition, Mary and Isaac’s family included 12 children and three sets of twins.

After the death of Isaac Johnson in 1902, Mary and her children, (with the exception of Andrew, who had settled in Washington earlier,) all took out homesteads in Grant County, Washington.
