Regina moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1890 and to Spokane, Washington, in 1896. She was a small woman who enjoyed parties and weekend poker with friends. She cared little for housework but made good biscuits and buckwheat pancakes.

Edwin Knight moved to Chicago from Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, in 1875 and became a naturalized citizen in 1891. After settling in Spokane, Washington, in 1896, he established Diamond Drill Contracting Company with a partner and, in 1911, became president of Farmers & Mechanics Bank.

Gertrude moved in 1910 to Seattle, Washington, where she worked for women’s suffrage under the pseudonym Mrs. G.L. Lake in order not to embarrass some conservative relatives.
