Other Information:

Oliver was a life long farmer in Van Buren County, Iowa. He and his wife had eleven children, nine of whom survived to adulthood. Oliver served in the Iowa 14th Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He fought in the battles of Fort Henry, Fort Donaldson, and Shiloh. He was captured at the “Hornets Nest” after his unit was surrounded and had exhausted their ammunition.
