Matilda’s family settled in Hendricks County, Indiana, shortly before her birth, having moved from Cumberland County, New Jersey. Matilda and her husband moved to Navarro County, Texas, between 1875 and 1880.

Some of Matilda’s children moved back to the Hendricks County, Indiana, area as adults.
