Johann emigrated from Indiana to Caldwell County, Missouri, in 1867. He emigrated from Adams County, Indiana, to Wabash County, Illinois, in 1872. After some thirty years in Wabash County, Illinois, Johann Kirsch moved to Brainerd, Crow Wing County, Minnesota, where he continued to farm for another 20 years. A large group of relatives from Wabash settled in Brainerd about 1902.

Johann immigrated to Indiana from Stark County, Ohio, about 1843. He emigrated from Adams County, Indiana, to Wabash County, Illinois, in 1870.

According to family tradition, on the trip from Germany, Johann and Gertraud’s first child died and was placed in the arms of an old man who had also died. Both were buried together, perhaps at sea.
