Claude emigrated from Switzerland County, Indiana, to Olivet, Osage County, Kansas, about 1870-1874.

Claude B. Sweezey graduated from West Point in 1892 and was a career U.S. Army officer. As a colonel, he led the 313th Infantry, 79th Division, in World War I. He retired from the Army in 1920.
